The economic of Thanh Tuyen commune has been developing in recent years. However, along with the economic development is the increase on social issues including HIV/AIDS, drugs and prostitution. By December 30, 2007, there were 12 drugs addicts (who were in control and on file), 19 HIV/AIDS – infected people, 8 AIDS- caused deaths. According to the record by the communal people committee, 73% of the infection is through drugs mainlining.

To minimize HIV infection and to avoid discrimination to HIV/AIDS – infected people, CEDO and the Woman Association co-organized a training course for women on ‘Raising awareness in the community and assisting basic health care conditions for HIV/AIDS- infected people’.
The trainees were supplied with the knowledge on HIV/AIDS, ways of transmission, the transformation from HIV to AIDS, and how to take care of HIV-infected people. These are important information that can help women know how to prevent this century-epidemic disease; provide supportive care to HIV-infected people to encourage them to live positively and avoid transmission to the community. Widespread propaganda for preventing HIV/AIDS is a way to raise awareness of family and self protection.
